OUR VISION is to have the greatest positive impact throughout the continent of Africa in the shortest
amount of time.
OUR GOAL is to unify Grant Makers by providing a foundation of best practice models,
which in-turn, will give Grant Makers the foundation for communicating, cooperating and collaborating
with one another.
OUR IMPACT will be to provide an unbiased service to the grantmakers by identifying what is working
and what is not, which gives grant makers a foundation of information to collaborate, communicate and
implement what is identified in a shared way.
AAO is born out of a need to provide solutions for the many dilemmas that have hamstrung NGOs,
deliver to donors the results they expect for their investment and insure that the people who depend
on aid are optimally served.
THE PROBLEM is that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are operating to address crucial issues,
and the results of their efforts oftentimes fall unacceptably short of the projected goals.
Unsubstantiated claims of effectiveness are no longer enough. Aid donors want to see their monetary
contributions result in real progress. Africa As One is working to lay down solid groundwork that has
been missing from aid dispensation in Africa.
AAO WILL DO THIS BY helping NGOs achieve a high level of accountability, transparency and integrity
at a time when millions of lives hang in the balance.
AAO will provide aid donors with a reliable economic evaluation of existing aid programs and information
to determine best practices amongst them.
Ultimately, AAO’s goal is to facilitate the delivery of what donors are expecting: a return on their investment
by way of changed lives and brighter tomorrows. Relevant information based on NGO’s efforts will
include dollars spent,methodology employed, ability to meet objective criteria, and the extent and quality
of documentation.
INITIALLY, THOSE INVOLVED WILL BE four grant makers who will focus on five areas of interest:
water management, education, AIDS prevention and treatment, village development and microfinance.
Once Africa As One has shown reasonable results in this implementation process, AAO will then reach
out to 100 of the largest grantmakers to include them in the process, in addition to expanding the areas
of impact.
