Day 59

On Saturdays we hold a function to say thank you to the DHL customers, and of course to teach local kids the game of rugby. This week’s event was held at an intimate little venue in Kampala. The customers and kids came out in their droves and it turned out to be quite an epic day. The children here really took to the game and before long they where chasing each other up and down the field while the adults cheered from the sidelines. Food was served buffet style, and an almost magical grill (that seemed to keep filling up every time I looked away) kept everybody well fed.

All in all it was another successful rugby clinic. The kids where some of the most enthusiastic yet, and who knows, we might one day see a Ugandan rugby team competing in the Rugby World Cup finals.

The place of many little birds

We spent the day 6,437ft above sea level at lake Bunyonyi. The name means the place of many little birds, and it was amazing! It looked like an oasis out of a storybook. With sights like these, it’s no wonder that Uganda is affectionately known as The Pearl of Africa. The lake is 900m deep […]

The Mad Market of Happy People and Happy-Making Food

Today was about food – and I found myself thinking back to Swati ‘slow food chef’, Dolores Goddeffrey, and how she said that food is networked to the heart. And walking through the Owino Market in Kampala’s CBD this morning our hearts (and stomachs) were filled to bursting. To get here we had to ditch […]
